After long time!

After a long time I pushed myself to write something for blog. I don’t know what I should write but I have decided to write whatever comes in mind - trash, programming, chit-chat or just lots of dots. I hope it will bring out my previous passion for writing which I have lost. My close friends know that I moved to Australia. Currently living in Sydney with one of my friend. I rather introduce him as my big brother - a fine gentleman with 2 kids and a lovely wife. Funny thing is that I still didn’t get permanent job, doing only contract jobs. I am tired with my 6.5 years web application development experience. I do not meet the requirements or I am over qualified. So, I understand - my job searching ability is poor and I am working on it. Here in Australia most of the companies use Windows environment and .net framework to develop applications and solutions. But I did offtrack works based on LAMP. Again Australia is less interested in development and research. There is a large market for off-the-shelf product customization. So, I need to wet my hands with these products to secure my future in IT industry. I am not saying there is no market for LAMP, but surely the market is very little in respect to USA or Europe.
I am also thinking to put my nose in Record Management industry (Information Management). Already did some works and I have found it interesting and less stressful. I might change my career in future if I get more responses from the industry.
Ma is very sick. She is totally in dead bed. This also affected my ability in large. I wish I could do something better and cure her sufferings. But I am totally helpless and pointless. My father and brother is suffering more than anything and it’s no possible to describe in words. Though I am happy to find my wife by my side always. Please pray for my mother. That’s all I can ask from the readers of this post.
I am working now to redesign a community website Bangla Proshar Committee. I am organize there scattered information using Joomla 1.0.13. It will be done by middle of January. A lot things are coming in my mind right now. But I don’t know what I should write and what I should left. Next article will be on backyard crusade and Christmas. Till then…

People suffered a lot and after such a long time they get a facility to learn online. Like now people can do many Microsoft and Cisco certification online. For network administrators who want to increase there skills can opt for many certified course like they can take securing networks with Cisco routers and switches 642-503 course. Or they may go for check point security administration 156-215 course. If you have an interest in Cisco internetwork then go for 640-863 courses or if you are interested in building Cisco multilayer switched networks then 642-812 course is best for you. To go for Oracle database course 1z0-042 it is important that you know some thing about Oracle and SQL. There are many other exams like 350-018 which you can take in order to enhance your skills. There are many courses for which applicants such meet the requirements of that course like CISSP and many other.

Hi,
My prayers are for your mother. I know it is hard to concentrate when someone as close as mother is in such condition. Best wishes for you and your family.

I didn’t apply for PR in Australia after completing my Bachelor’s degree and now working in Canada for last year and half. Luckily I just had to wait one week to get a job here but I’ve also seen so many people with hard luck as well. Well educated with excellent career history are struggling to get a decent job. Would you believe a guy with first class from BUET and almost 10+ years experience in BD is working in a factory here? Sometime I wonder why people leave their life in BD and hunt for a life here. Well I didn’t want to stay in Australia after I saw few of seniors graduated from my university in IT ended up driving cabs in Sydney. I was hoping to go back there and try my luck sometime next year, but from your post (with the experience in LAMP) I’m now afraid of taking the step. Would you recommend to get some expertise on Windows development environment if I were to make a move to Australia?

Anyway, I hope you get something permanent soon and stay in IT industry. Please try your best not to get ODD jobs. I would hate to see someone like you end up doing that.

Dear Ehsan,

Thanks for your prayers and concerns. No I am not interested to do any odd jobs. In the mean time I
am working in couple of industries to get local experiences. Australian market works in different way. After doing some extensive research I ended up in following. This is not just my idea. It’s the fact.

1. Australia is a service oriented country. Development and research are not extensive like USA or Canada. They outsource most of the development works to India or some other countries. Even they have outsourced their call centers to foreign countries.
2. They have IT infrastructures which they can’t outsourced. Such as networking, business process (using SAP or other SAP type products), desktop support and application customization. So, development career is not a good option here. Thats why I am concentrating in network role. I am getting good responses after tailoring my resume.
3. Australia heavily depends on MS product lines. They do not see Linux and open source as main stream option.
4. There are couple of different industry which is not purely IT but relate to knowledge management and information management such as record management. I worked in it and I find it easy and good money there. Just couple of applications (Trim) need to understand.
5. Local experience is very important here. They do not count foreign experience much. Because that do not fit their service industry.
6. Financial market has greater opportunity but need to know the applications.
7. Resume style varies from other countries. Here an application takes at least 4/5 hours to finish. Need to prepare cover letter, resume and selection criteria according to job ads. So, better to work with agencies. Most companies hire through them. It saves lots of time.
8. Face value and local references are most important.

I have lot of friends who are cab drivers or security officers. Good money (cash in hand which is tax free) and no hassle. But they get bitten time to time. Though they do not want to spend a great deal of time in job market research. At the end money is everything to a person who came from third world. Again I have friends who are doing really good. As long as you understand the market you will be able to get the job. If you are thinking to join MS development line then I recommend C#, ASP.NET and .NET framework. You also need to get some industry standard certificates. They value those more than degree.

People like us leave BD to find better future. Just look at to Bangladesh what is going on. I just had a chat with my father — he said good rice is now 42TK/KG. How can a family survive without any constant tension? I tried my best and did good jobs even helped to establish one of the best outsourcing company in BD. But what I got only experiences which are good but not good for living a life without constant fear of losing. Take care.

I am a fresh graduate in CSc from Bangladesh.Last six months i am working as a
developer in LAMP environment. No doubt I enjoy my development career but Life
in Dhaka is really being tough day by day. I am getting 20,000 taka in a
software cmpany.This is not a bad amount to me with just only six months
experience.Life in BD is really being tough day by day.Cost of everything is in
a hike.
SO now Planning to go australia for Master degree and then will try to get PR
there.In fact PR is my target. I am confuse to choose my subjects in MS. as i
see that jobs as a developer is not good there. You tell that there is a good
chance of network jobs comparing softare developments.So sud I do complete my
Masters in Networking related course?Will it help to get a job there?
And onething, u mentoned that vendor certification is must better to get a job
there.So what kinda certification I can go for after going there and how much
expensive they are?
Would you please help me to guide over this situation…..

Hi Milan,

Thanks for your post. Please reply in blog. Yes you can try to for masters. But immigration law has been changed. Only completing the degree will not help you. You have to get a job before applying for PR in related field. Otherwise you will not get PR. If you stay in Bangladesh and get 3 years working experience then it will be ok for you to apply. You can get certification in Windows administration and CISCO. These two are mostly the biggest field in Australia. They also have large market in DBA. So now the thing is i have to mange a job too to apply for PR.I heard that to get PR in australia cooking or hospitality management course are very good options.As getting job in this field would b easier than IT jobs.
So how is the idea if i go Australia with a cooking course for two years just to get PR easily.and after going there i will also get enrolled in a CISCO course at the same time of studying in cooking course to get a IT jobs after getting PR?

Milan, your plan is quite fine and it will work out if you can execute it. But there is a problem - how you will convince high commission of Australia in Bangladesh?

1. You have studied IT and you are working in IT. Why you want to change your career suddenly?
2. Are you changing it because you want to stay in Australia?
3. Why you choose hospitality not IT related subject?

You have to convince them otherwise you will not get visa. Life is about planning, you have to plan every steps. Cheers mate.

Dada, last few days i talked to two agencies of dhaka who processes documents for australian student visa.One is IDP education and other is MOVES International, IDP tells to apply in MS in IT in Queenslamd University or ballarat University.And they dont agree for applying in cooking courses.

And the other one suggests for going in “TAFE NSW” with a One year Diploma of telecom engeenering. They have a logic behind this diploma …like i can get a job just after completing this course.And then i can also get admitted another one year diploma course to make my study total two years.And i can earn money at the same time from my job. Now i am thinking for taking a decision…..what u say…?

If you are apply for the diploma there is 50-50 chance to get a job. If you get a job and stay with student visa, you will not be able to work more than 20 hours, where as companies will not hire you for 20 hours. So, you have leave student visa and start bridging visa. When you will be bridging visa you will not be able to study because you are no more student and you are not Australian resident. This is what I know. You should talk about it with them. IDP is the best. What you can do is study for masters in Telecommunication and also do CISCO. So you as soon as you finish your degree you will be able to get a job and be on bridging visa. When you will get necessary experience you can apply for PR.

hi…dada…its nice to talk u after a long time…hope u r goin well….dada,last week i talked with a agency.

They are tellin me to apply for SIR(skilled immigrant residentship).They say that in Adelaide, Australian gov is allowing people to stay with SIR. To apply for SIR, It only need one yr work experience and IELTS 6.0. The preocessin time is 12-18 months. if i go with SIR permission,i will be able to get 3 yrs visa for stayin there.with SIR visa i can work there easily. And after this 3 yrs i can apply for PR.Sequentially after gettin PR i will be able to apply for Citizenship. The visa processin will be completed in two steps 2 months(priliminary processing,it costs 3000 AUD)+12months(final lodgement,it needs 4600 AUD).In total the cost is AUD 8000. This agency has a sydney office. They have a lwayer there named David Stephen.He will be handling my case.I have to pay the money step by step and ofcourse before starting the processing of each step.

Now the issue is,this SIR visa is only for Adelaide and i dont knw how are the oppurtunities there. The agency tells that it is a industrial region of australia. So its possible to get some job there and they also tell that wages are also like sydney and deifintely not less than that.

In fact i was gettin prepared for my MS in somewhere of sydney as i knew that oppurtuinities are more in sydney.But now it is a matter of thinkin to get a decision that should i go with student visa to stay in sydney or i should go in adelaide with a SIR visa to work there.

I hope if u can get some realtime info about all the aspects in Adelaide like how are the job oppurtunities there and….that wud b really helpful for me to reach in decision.Thanks a lot. Take care…

Nice to see your reply after long time. It’s not bad if you apply for SIR. But sincerely I can’t say anything about Adelaide. I never been there. Though there are some Bengali people living there and they have good jobs. But it’s very quite and red neck area. You will feel very lonely. I believe you have to find job by yourself. My best advise is go through seek.com. Check out job postings for Adelaide and do your own research. I believe AUD8000.00 is too much for the application. In my case, I hired a lawyer for my brother and it is costing me AUD4500. So my advise - do some research on the lawyer through internet. Even you can ask Lawyer association for feedback. I can’t exactly say what you should do. Because some essential factors will influence your decision, such as money, time and opportunity. If you need any specific information let me know I will help you.

Hello…dada thanks for ur frank advice….ur lines are quite important for me. I guess ur bro is trying for PR not SIR ,right ? In addition if PR costs A$4500 then how come SIR costs A$8000. That really surprising. Cud u pls reffere me to the lawyer u r deaaling for the case of ur bro so that i can directly talk with him if he wud provide me some idea about costings and also more abt SIR. I wud like to hav some search over seek.com. I did too. But it amezed me to count the jobs there. they are really very few comparing sydney.And most are for the experts with 2 or 3 yrs experience. They want java and .net especialists and some CISCO posts also in demand. Bur i guess they are not for me as i m just having one year of Bangladeshi experinece. I am planning to do CCNA before i leave BD. Still i am not sure of that….only CCNA certification will do how much to get a good job there without any experience. Hope u get my point.Thnks.

Yes I am applying PR for my brother. This link has all the fees.http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/990i.pdf. Check that out. My lawyer doesn’t process SIR application. So it will not be any help. You might contact other lawyers. Even you can apply by yourself. Immigration website has all the information. If you have CCNA you have better chance in Sydney. At least it will help you to start with something. Australian market always looks for local experience in applicants. But there is always hope. If you work hard, you will get job. There will be no problem.
